Vukich, MD, Madison, Wis. Other symposia that day include ÒCorneal Collagen Crosslinking: Where Are We Now and What Does the Future Hold?Ó from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., sponsored by the ASCRS FDA Committee, and ÒImaging the Ante- rior Segment With the Ophthalmic PhotographersÕ SocietyÓ from 3:00 to 5 :00 p.m., sponsored by the Oph- thalmic PhotographersÕ Society. S unday highlights On Sunday, April 27, the ASCRS Foundation/TearLab Run for Sight will start at 7:30 a.m. Registration information can be found at www.ascrsfoundation.org. Dr. Holland is moderating ÒThe Sunday SummitÓ on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The session w ill feature the ASCRS Science and Medicine Lecture, ÒCreation: The History and Future of Life, DNA, and Genes,Ó with guest lecturer Adam Rutherford, PhD. Dr. Rutherford is a well-known British science writer specializing in the emerging field of evolution, genetics, and synthetic human biology. Dr. Rutherford will explore ideas in synthetic biology, simulation of the origin of life, and how these issues pertain to o ur interpretation of modern history and the future. Following Dr. RutherfordÕs lecture at 11:00 a.m. is Ò60 Minutes: Future Directions in Anterior Segment Surgery,Ó a new program based on the television show 60 Minutes, examining the state of the art in major subspecial- ties in ophthalmology including c ornea surgery, presbyopia correc- tion, and glaucoma surgery. The ASOA Celebration, spon- sored by CareCredit, will take place at the House of Blues, 15 Lansdowne St., from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. A badge is required for admission. Monday, Tuesday highlights On Monday, April 28, the 2014 Update on Medicare, Congress, Coding, and Compliance, will be h eld from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. The ASCRS Innovators Session, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., will fea- ture the Charles D. Kelman Innova- torÕs Lecture, delivered this year by Warren E. Hill, MD, East Valley Ophthalmology, Mesa, Ariz. Draw- ing on insights from a mathematical tradition outside traditional optics, Dr. Hill will describe a method of IOL power calculation quite differ- ent from what is currently in use. Over the past several decades, truly remarkable advances in IOL technol- ogy have been made. But the way in which the necessary power of the IOL is calculated prior to surgery has moved forward quite slowly. Modern ophthalmology has advanced in many areas by successfully borrow- ing from other fields. Dr. Hill will demonstrate how the accuracy of cataract surgery refractive outcomes may be moved to the next level by adapting technology from an un- likely source. The 32nd Annual Film Festival Reception and Awards will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. On Tuesday, April 29, the ÒHot Off the PressÓ session will take place from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. It will be moderated by David F. Chang, MD, Los Altos, Calif., and will include a panel of expert ophthalmologists. EW Editors' note: Dr. Holland has no financial interests related to this article.
