Boyle EyeWorld Senior Staff Writer The annual winter meeting, to be held in Puerto Rico, will offer expert discussion and interaction H ighlights of the upcoming ASCRS•ASOA Winter Update 2014 meeting include optional workshops, general sessions, and evening general sessions with cataract, refractive, and other expert surgeons presenting in an interactive environment. This year's event, keeping with the usual ASCRS•ASOA winter meeting theme, will feature a casual, relaxed atmosphere, with the request of no ties worn by attendees. The meeting will be held February 13–17, 2014, at the El Conquistador, a Waldorf Astoria Property in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. "We invite you to attend the 7th annual ASCRS•ASOA Winter Update program," officials said on the ASCRS•ASOA website for the meeting. "Strategize with accessible faculty and engage in the open exchange of techniques and ideas in a relaxing, world-class setting." Meeting schedule The ASCRS physicians' program, which is subject to change, is scheduled to start on Thursday, February 13 at 4 p.m. with registration, which will be followed at 6 p.m. with the Welcome & Networking Reception. General Sessions start at 8 a.m. Friday, February 14, with Optional Workshops from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. and an Evening Non-CME Session from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, February 15, General Sessions will educate attendees about a multitude of anterior segment topics from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., followed again by Optional Workshops in the afternoon. Saturday will also feature an Evening General Session from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and an Attendee Dinner from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Both Sunday, February 16 and Monday, February 17 will have General Sessions, Sunday's beginning at 8 a.m. and running until 12:30 p.m., and Monday's running from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday will also feature Optional Workshops and an Evening General Session. The ASOA Practice Management track, also subject to change, is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday with registration. The General Sessions on Friday will run from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Registration will run on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with General Sessions running from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Attendee Dinner from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The ASOA program ends on Sunday, with registration from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and General Sessions from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Preliminary physicians' program Each day will feature experts in cataract and refractive surgery, as well as other subspecialties and areas in ophthalmology, speaking in an interactive format on various topics. On Friday, Robert H. Osher, MD, professor of ophthalmology, University of Cincinnati, and medical director emeritus, Cincinnati Eye Institute, is set to moderate the "Video Symposium of Challenging Cases & Complications Management During Cataract Surgery" session from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Edward J. Holland, MD, professor of ophthalmology, University of Cincinnati, and director, cornea service, Cincinnati Eye Institute, will moderate the next session beginning at 10:30 a.m., "Interactive Cornea." The Optional Workshop that day is scheduled to be given by Nancey K. McCann, ASCRS director of government relations, "ASOA for MDs: The Future of Healthcare Reform." continued on page 8
