April 2013 a.m. and finish at 9 or 10 p.m., everyday, Monday to Saturday. EyeWorld: How many clinic sites do you run in India and what ophthalmic subspecialties are treated there? Dr. Reddy: I started the trend in 1996, and I have seven centers in Hyderabad, two in Chennai, two in Delhi, one in Goa, one in Visakhapatnam, and one in Vijayawada. I am consolidating my business at the moment and will expand further in the next year. All the centers are well equipped to serve all areas of ophthalmology. EyeWorld: What new technologies are you using in your practice? Dr. Reddy: In October 2010, I was fortunate to be the first surgeon in the world to conduct the first study on VICTUS Femtosecond Laser cataract surgery for Technolas (Munich, Germany) with all government approvals, and the study was used for CE approval and FDA approval. The latest addition is the ORA System (WaveTec Vision, Aliso Viejo, Calif.) for intraoperative aberrometry. I have one IntraLase machine (Abbott Medical Optics, Santa Ana, Calif.), two Femtec machines (20/10 Perfect Vision, Heidelberg, Germany), and two 217P machines for ZYOPTIX and SUPRACOR (Technolas/Bausch + Lomb, Rochester, N.Y.). I also have one Schwind (Kleinostheim, Germany), three ZYOPTIX Z100 machines (Technolas/Bausch + Lomb), and two LaserSight machines (LaserSight Technologies, Winter Park, Fla.), etc. Maxivision is into advanced technology in eyecare and has all the latest equipment in all subspecialties of ophthalmology. EyeWorld: Do you think that patients in India are open to new technologies and innovations in eyecare? Dr. Reddy: Patients in India are open to new technologies. The proof is the conversion from blade to blade-free LASIK and the increased interest in laser refractive cataract surgery. Ten percent of India's 1.4 billion people are well-to-do, and you can imagine the market for new technology. EyeWorld: What pearls could you share with ophthalmologists for successfully running a thriving ophthalmic business? Dr. Reddy: [My main] pearl to ophthalmologists is to work hard to constantly upgrade knowledge and technology. Even more importantly, deliver ethically based, truthful med- icine, and the money automatically follows. EW Editors' note: Dr. Reddy has no financial interests related to this article.
