Osher, MD, the marker was launched to improve the marking required for ophthalmic procedures, including astigmatic keratotomy and toric IOL implantation. Alcon launched Ilevro (nepafenac ophthalmic suspension) 0.3%, a once-daily nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug for pain and inflammation associated with cataract surgery. In two double-masked, randomized clinical trials, patients treated with Ilevro were less likely to have ocular pain and measurable signs of inflammation (cells and flare) at the end of treatment than those treated with its vehicle. Beaver-Visitec www.beaver-visitec.com Alcon www.alcon.com Avellino – GENE Detection System Rescula Sucampo Pharmaceuticals launched Rescula (unoprostone isopropyl ophthalmic solution) 0.15% for the lowering of IOP in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension in the U.S. Rescula is a big potassium (BK) channel activator. Avellino Lab USA launched the Avellino Ð GENE Detection System (AGDS), the first commercial genetic test for Avellino Corneal Dystrophy (ACD). Carriers of this genetic mutation are at an extremely high risk of experiencing diminished vision and eventual blindness should they undergo vision-correction refractive surgery (LASIK, LASEK, PRK). There is no current cure or treatment for ACD. The gene mutation is said to affect about one out of every 870 individuals. Developed in coordination with Roger F. Steinert, MD, the blade measures 1 mm wide, the handle and internal components are made of titanium, and the blade is a gem quality diamond. The knife is reusable, autoclavable, and the handle is guaranteed for life. Crestpoint Management introduced the Paddle PreChopper Forceps, designed to crack soft to dense nuclei into four segments with minimal stretching of the incision. The forceps shafts open to a maximum of 1.7 mm at the incision point, and the tips open to 2.5 mm. The tips have sharp front edges that initially penetrate the nucleus; squeeze the forceps and the tips open to crack and split the nucleus.
