In May, Nicox announced that the U.S. FDA
approved Zerviate (cetirizine ophthalmic
solution 0.24%) to treat ocular itch associated
with allergic conjunctivitis. This is the first
topical ocular formulation of the well-known
antihistamine to treat ocular itching with
allergic conjunctivitis. In September, Eyevance
Pharmaceuticals, a new eyecare-focused
pharmaceutical business, announced their
acquisition of exclusive rights to commercial-
ize Zerviate in the U.S.

Zerviate Ultra M Series slit lamps
Plusoptix announced the launch of its
plusoptiX S16 series, a vision screening
device developed especially for use in pedi-
atric clinics. The plusoptiX S16 is designed
to enable pediatricians to easily and reliably
detect early eye disorders in children. With
the plusoptiX S16, pediatricians can obtain
reliable measurement values for refraction,
pupil diameter, pupil distance, and symmetry
of corneal reflexes.

TearScience released the LipiFlow Activator
II treatment disposable to treat meibomian
gland dysfunction. The Activator consists of
the scleral lens heating surface, the shield
structure and the pulsation bladders, all of
which directly interface with the patient oc-
ulus. The Activator II is used with a separate,
semi-permanent cable, which remains con-
nected to the LipiFlow console. The LipiFlow
system now includes a reusable cable that
reduces waste.

Quantel Medical received U.S. FDA approv-
al for the Easyret photocoagulator, a fully
integrated 577nm yellow fiber laser. The
Easyret features a broad range of treatment
settings including SingleSpot, MultiSpot, and
SubLiminal technologies for the treatment
of pathologies such as diabetic retinopathy,
macular edema, and central serous chorioret-
inopathy.

Oasis Medical introduced the SOFT PLUG
Extended Duration 180, a canalicular
implantable plug made of an absorbable
polydioxanone material. The punctal occluder
can last up to 180 days and is available in
three sizes: 0.3 mm x 2.0 mm, 0.4 mm x 2
mm, and 0.5 mm x 2 mm.
