October 2013 1-Day Acuvue TruEye contact lenses EW PRODUCT SHOWCASE 121 KR-800 Auto Kerato-Refractometer Vistakon introduced 1-Day Acuvue TruEye (narafilcon A) contact lenses, a silicone hydrogel daily disposable lens, in the U.S. These lenses will gradually replace the TruEye (narafilcon B) line launched in the U.S. in 2010. Topcon Medical Systems introduced the KR-800 Auto Kerato-Refractometer, which features a high resolution 8.5-inch color touch screen, a compact modern design, and an improved joystick operation due to a 23% reduction in weight. This approval follows the expiration of a patent issued to Massachusetts General Hospital that restricted Quantel Medical and several other laser manufacturers from marketing SLT within the U.S. The design of the laser is adaptable to a physician's current slit lamp, eliminating the need for dedicated space. The compact design also allows for easy transport and includes convenient storage accessories when not in use. Patient Education Concepts launched a new iPad app, Sight Selector Subscription. Eightyfour patient education videos are available for less than $1/day for up to five devices through iTunes. Additionally, the app allows practices to customize the app with their practice name and print handouts on each topic via a wireless printer.
