Aerie's challenge spurred an avalanche of giving that generated more than $53,000 in contributions in just a few days. This year, Aerie is generously increasing its match to $30,000. Attendees' donations will have double the impact during the 2019 ASCRS ASOA Annual Meeting. "Following the enthusiastic response of ASCRS members to last year's match, we were eager to expand the program and together raise funds for an even greater number of sight-saving procedures for patients in need," said Tom Mitro, president and chief operating officer of Aerie Pharmaceuticals. Visit the ASCRS Foundation Graffiti Giving Wall in the Sails Pavilion of the San Diego Con- vention Center or the Aerie booth (#2945) in the Exhibit Hall to contribute. More opportunities to #GiveSight Below are some additional ways attendees can give back at the ASCRS ASOA Annual Meeting. • Visit the ASCRS Foundation Graffiti Giving Wall in the Sails Pavilion to doodle pictures or words that illustrate why you chose ophthalmol- ogy. Revisit the wall on Sunday and Monday to see a professional artist turning your inspiration into a mural. • Volunteer for Operation Sight at the ASCRS Foundation booth in the Sails Pavilion. • Attend the symposium "Global Efforts in Addressing Avoidable Blindness and Models of Care/Training" on Sunday, May 5, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. It will be led by Alan Crandall, MD, the 2018 Chang Humanitarian Award winner, and David Hunter Cherwek, MD. • Attend the instructional course "Curing World Blindness and Cataract Surgery in the Develop- ing World: Lessons Learned by Members of the ASCRS Foundation International Committee" on Sunday, May 5, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. T hanks to ASCRS members and industry partners, the ASCRS Foundation gave sight to a record number of individuals in 2018. The Operation Sight program provided 1,221 free cataract surgeries to needy American patients, and the Robert Sinskey Eye Institute in Ethiopia served a record 24,000 patients. Through partnerships with like-minded organizations, the foundation is addressing the root cause of global cataract blind- ness—the shortage of eye surgeons in developing countries. Help maintain this momentum through 2019 by participating in a foundation activity at the ASCRS ASOA Annual Meeting in San Diego. Run for Sight Join the ASCRS Foundation on Sunday, May 5, at 6:30 a.m. for the 7th Annual Run for Sight, spon- sored by Johnson & Johnson Vision. Featuring a 5K run and a 1-mile walk, the registration fee will support the foundation's humanitarian cataract surgery programs. This year's event will start and finish along San Diego's waterfront, just steps from the con- vention center. All participants will receive a race T-shirt and finisher's medal.
