He has also served as a member of the Young Eye Surgeons Clinical Committee. Dr. Kim is a corneal special- ist who practices comprehensive ophthalmology and treats all aspects of eye disease at Professional Eye Associates in Dalton, Georgia. Dr. Kim received his bachelor of arts in chemistry at Amherst College and spent the subsequent year at Boston Medical Center as a research tech- nician where he helped publish and author articles on leukemia treat- ments. He completed his medical degree at Albany Medical College, receiving award recognition for ex- cellence in ophthalmology research. He completed his medical intern- ship at the Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, and his residency in ophthalmology at the Louisiana State University Eye Center in New Orleans. Dr. Kim also pursued addi- tional subspecialty fellowship train- ing in corneal transplant surgery and refractive surgery at the LSU Eye Center. Dr. Kim has published numer- ous articles and has lectured nation- ally on his interests in ophthalmolo- gy. He was selected among his peers as the vice president of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology. In his free time, Dr. Kim enjoys playing basketball, singing, and spending time with his family. In addition, ASCRS holds live webinars throughout the year These educational opportunities have been extremely successful each year. One factor in this success is the continued dedication and volunteer- ism from the individuals who serve as educators. In this new regular feature, we will introduce you to individuals who have contributed to the soci- ety's outstanding education, helping members strengthen their skills and sharpen their expertise. This month's spotlight is on D. Brian Kim, MD. This past April at the 2018 ASCRS•ASOA Annu- al Meeting, Dr. Kim served as a co-instructor in the Advanced Phaco Skills Transfer session and the Iris Suturing Skills Transfer session. During one of these sessions, an attendee was paired with Dr. Kim and shared this feedback with ASCRS: "Great skills transfer class this morning with Dr. Brian Kim as instructor. He did an excellent job. I was able to accomplish my desire to learn various techniques, including iris suturing." Outside of the Annual Meeting, Dr. Kim is highly active in ASCRS. He is a frequent contributor on Eye- Connect, the ASCRS online forum for real-time member collaboration and knowledge sharing. Last year, he uploaded his video, "Injector-As- sisted Haptic Fixation: My Step-Wise Approach." His video is still avail- able for viewing on his EyeConnect post, and you can read the discus- sion among Dr. Kim and EyeCon- nect members about his modifica- tion of the Yamane double needle scleral haptic fixation technique.
