Cornea Society News – published quarterly by the Cornea Society 2 President's Message Dear Cornea Society members, The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) meeting is over, and we have celebrated Thanksgiving with our loved ones. We have so much to be thankful for. I am very grateful to have served as your president for the past 2 years. The Cornea Society is in great shape, and our future is bright. I have been supported for the past 2 years by an outstanding Executive Committee including Elmer Tu, MD, Chris Rapuano, MD, Barry Lee, MD, Bennie Jeng, MD, and Kathryn Colby, MD. It has been a privilege to work with such a talented group, each of whom I consider not only my colleagues but my friends. Collectively we have worked to make the Society better for all of our members. I am pleased to announce the following officers were selected to serve on the Executive Committee: Dr. Tu as president, Dr. Colby as president elect and secre- tary-treasurer, Dr. Lee as vice president of industry relations, and Dr. Jeng as vice president of international relations. The following board members were selected to serve the board for a 4-year term beginning January 1, 2018: Sophie Deng, MD, Jodhbir Mehta, MD, and Parag Majmudar, MD. I would like to especially thank the following members of the Board of Directors whose terms end December 31, 2017 for their service and hard work on behalf of the Society: Frank Price, MD, Joo Choun-Ki, MD, and Dr. Rapuano. We have worked together to engage our younger members. Under the leadership of Jessica Ciralsky, MD, we have launched Cornea Society University, which includes webinars, dinner meetings, and a website. Check out the website at corneasocietyuniversity.org. The Cornea Fellows Educational Summit has expanded to increase the number of fellows we can include in our intensive weekend hands-on training program. The future members of our Society have many ways to get involved and interact with other members to share knowledge and advance the field. To prepare for the future we have successfully obtained taxonomy code designation for our subspecialty and will continue to work closely with the AAO on future reimbursement issues. We are also working to increase our member engagement through evaluation of our membership categories and benefits. Our goal is to remove barriers to entry and find ways to engage our members moving forward. We will be expanding our committee structure and creating different avenues for membership involvement. We are working on setting up a standalone cornea meeting in 2018 and have already started planning the World Cornea Congress for 2020 in Boston. It has been an exhilarating 2 years during which I have been guided, challenged, and supported by our exec- utive director Gail Albert, who keeps everything running for our Society. Though Gail is rarely on the podium or visible during our programs, she is the one who keeps our Society working and our meetings running smoothly. We owe Gail a tremendous debt of gratitude for all of her efforts. Lastly I want to thank each of you for your continuing membership and support of the Cornea Society. Togeth- er we are stronger as we are advancing the fields of cornea and ocular surface disease while we continue to restore sight and improve the lives of our patients. Marian Macsai, MD President, Cornea Society Marian Macsai, MD
