Network of camaraderie While EyeConnect serves as a daily premier resource for sharing knowl- edge and staying up to date, it allows physicians of varying back- grounds and experience to network with experts and establish invalu- able connections. Gary Wörtz, MD, Lexington, Kentucky, first joined the forum when he was a chief resident. "For a young aspiring ophthalmologist, I found it so interesting to discuss real world problems with practicing ophthalmologists with decades more experience," he said. "My voice was welcomed even as a resident, and I have made some amazing friends through the camaraderie of the community." David Crandall, MD, West Bloomfield, Michigan, also described the collaborative nature and benefits of the community. "The discus- sions about different approaches to new techniques are tremendously helpful. Everyone comes up with their own tips and tricks to make the transitions easier, and with the collaborative atmosphere, everyone is sharing those tips," he said. "I have also received many patient referrals based on discussions in EyeConnect." EyeConnect is one of the many opportunities to engage with peers for ASCRS members. With its year-round access and influence, it is a strong complement to the ASCRS•ASOA Annual Meeting that provides the chance to network in person and learn directly from the world's thought leaders in ophthal- mology. Registration for the 2018 ASCRS•ASOA Annual Meeting, taking place in Washington, D.C. on April 13–17, is currently open. To learn more about ASCRS EyeConnect and see what others are saying about the forum, vis- it ascrseyeconnect.org. After just 3 days, his inquiry had expanded to a thread of nearly 30 messages with responses and recommendations from colleagues spanning the globe, from Savannah, Georgia to Munich, Germany to Murdoch, Australia. This is ASCRS EyeConnect, the number one peer-to-peer online sharing network for ophthalmolo- gists, through which participants can obtain real time guidance on challenging cases and emerging issues and advancements. From the comfort of their homes or offices, physicians connect with colleagues around the world daily to discuss a range of topics from cataract/refrac- tive and retina/vitreous to business practices and the latest technologies. "EyeConnect is the ophthalmic profession's most subscribed on- line forum, offering expert advice in real time," said William Myers, MD, Chicago, ASCRS EyeConnect Committee chair. "Whether asking a question or sharing some new tech- niques, participants learn well in advance of the published literature." With an average of 100 new discussion threads per month, such as "Favorite Microinstruments and Other Miscellaneous Instruments and Why" and "Corneal Abrasion Healing Time," there are more than a dozen daily conversations and nearly 150 active users every month. "Imagine having a practice partner you can turn to who has the experience of a thousand surgeons; that is what EyeConnect is to me," said David Leach, MD, FACS, Lew- iston and Moscow, Idaho. "I practice in a rural setting, and on several occasions, EyeConnect has been a lifeline to surgical and clinical pearls from experienced surgeons and clinicians, and my patient care has improved as a result." Joining the conversation EyeConnect is available to all ASCRS members, who are automatically enrolled in the forum. By visiting ascrseyeconnect.org and clicking "My Subscriptions" under the "My Settings" tab, members have the option to activate the community alerts and can start posting topics or join or observe discussion threads.
