Advertorial A Practical Dry Eye Center Of Excellence MiBo Thermoflo is an indispensable tool for the management of dry eye. The device is simple, fast, affordable, and effective. It provides a reliable, results-oriented solution to a wide range of clinical problems. MiBo invigorates tear function by liberating lipids from obstructed glands and enhances the ocular surface with healthier secretions. Through active, aggressive and timely intervention MiBo transforms a practice into a Dry Eye Center of Excellence. by James S. Lewis*, MD | jslewis@jameslewismd.com Philadelphia, PA The market for in-office thermal treatment of inspissated meibomian glands has expanded with a plethora of novel solutions. Some involve USB powered wrap-around heating pads while others employ temperature controlled goggles. These join the established home remedies including warm compresses, microwaveable eyelid wraps, and exothermal masks. All base their effectivity on meibum's physiologically modest melting point. modest melting point. MiBo Thermoflo delivers precisely controlled radiant thermal energy in conjunction with external eyelid message. The process liquifies secretions in clogged glands and promotes an enhanced tearfilm. While none of these therapies permanently address the underlying metabolic process leading to meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) all provide a non-trivial relief of symptoms and a platform for enhanced function. function. MiBo excels and benefits from the inherent consistency of a professionally applied intervention. While dry eye therapies include tear supplements, punctal occlusion, nutraceuticals, intense pulsed light, lid hygiene, systemic medications, serum tears, amniotic membranes, and topical pharmacologic agents all require compliance, clinical titration, and time before success can be recognized and appreciated. In office thermal management of clogged meibomian glands assuages the frustrated dry eye patient, provides immediate symptomatic improvement, and generates an extended period of improved tear function. This breaks the chronic pain cycle and allows time for additional therapies to become effective. LASIK and Premium IOL patients have little tolerance for substandard vision secondary to dry eye. MiBo MiBo is easily applied in these cases pre-operatively in a prophylactic fashion or post-operatively to mitigate transient symptomatology. When blepharitis and dry eye complicate epithelial healing, MiBo is a reliable therapy. I routinely use MiBO in the first week following DSEK, PK, and PRK. MiBo has been shown effective in the treatment of hordeolum and enhances comfort and wearing time in struggling contact lens patients. MiBo remains my fastball for most dry eye cases. One company's actuator-based pulsating thermal message helped focus our attention on the importance of MGD. However, limiting dry eye management to this one device would be like refusing cataract surgery to all patients who did not select a Premium IOL. Cost matters and the vast majority of patients achieve relief and improved ocular surface health with MiBo's affordable fee structure. Buyer's remorse is an exceedingly rare phenomenon with MiBo. exceedingly rare phenomenon with MiBo. Finally, patients with severe MGD and inadequate resources can be treated with MiBo probono. I find this personally and professionally satisfying in this age of escalating health care costs. MiBo Medical Group has launched a series of supportive products to complement their flagship instrument. This includes a portable meibomian gland camera, an affordable eyelid exfoliator, a home thermal unit, unit, flexible lid compressors, and tear strip meniscometry. Emphasizing affordability, the company demonstrates its support for active dry eye management in all patients. Diagnostics help elucidate the etiology of dry eye and quantitate response to therapy. Few patients with dry eye need this information after their initial clinical encounter. Once more serious causes have been eliminated patients are focused on results. MiBo Thermoflo is an indispensible tool for managing DRY EYE. MiBo delivers prolonged radiant thermal energy in the therapeutic range. The MiBo Thermoflo is sold with a two-month, full refund, return policy. *Dr. Lewis has a financial interest in these products and serves as Medical Director of MiBo Medical Group.
