A 3:45–5:15 p.m. symposium co-sponsored by the Ocular Micro- biology and Immunology Group on "Hot Topics for Minimizing Infec- tions in Cataract Surgery" will cover different antibiotic treatments and practices for cataract surgery in the U.S. and around the world. Kelman A breakdown of cataract- centric education by day T he American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) promises a wealth of cat- aract offerings at its 2017 annual meeting in New Orleans. Symposia, instruction courses, sessions in the Learning Lounge, and a plethora of relevant labs (for an additional fee) await. Here's a breakdown by day of just some of these offerings. Sunday Instruction courses kick off from 10:15 a.m.–12:30 p.m. with sessions including "Code Red: Mastering Phaco Nightmares and Worst-Case Scenarios: A Video-Based Course" and "Best of the Best: An Update in Cataract Surgery." From 10:15–11:15 a.m. are offerings that include a video-based course in unexpected and unpleasant cataract cases. A course from 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. will focus on small incision lenticule extraction.
