52 AAO Program Preview • November 11–14, 2017 EW AAO 2017 by Ellen Stodola EyeWorld Senior Staff Writer Dr. Kliman added that Dr. Cun- ningham will moderate a morning session that will provide insights into innovation and R&D at some big companies. This year's OIS Award will be a tribute to Abbott Medical Optics (now Johnson & Johnson Vision, Santa Ana, California). After giving out the award, discussion will focus on Abbott Medical Optics' early days up to its present merger with John- son & Johnson Vision. During the afternoon program- ming, Dr. Kliman will moderate a session that he said will focus on "problem solving in innovation." This will feature case studies of real situations that have happened to different companies, and audi- ence members and panelists will be able to weigh in on how they would react before learning how the situation played out in real life. Dr. Kliman said there will be a variety of instances shared, including clinical scenarios and financial scenarios. Other sessions throughout the day will focus on the rise of the chief medical officer, private and public funding, a showcase of public companies, and updates on the AAO, National Eye Institute, and the OIS index. Finally, the popular Masters of Industry session will be back again to conclude this year's meeting.
