ataracts are not just a med-
ical issue in developing
countries. Here in the U.S.
there are people who are
uninsured or underinsured
and cannot afford care on their own.
These individuals may rely on others
to complete their daily tasks and if
left untreated, risk complete vision
loss.
The award-winning
program will celebrate
National Sight Week
this October
Operation Sight is a network
of volunteer organizations and
ASCRS members who provide care
to these Americans unable to access
or afford surgery. Launched in 2014,
Operation Sight matches eligible
patients with volunteer surgeons
and provides the administrative
and financial assistance necessary to
simplify the process.
Since the program's launch,
1,300 individuals are seeing clearly
because of the combined efforts of
dedicated volunteers and gener-
ous donors—and others are taking
notice.
In July, the American Society of
Association Executives (ASAE) chose
the ASCRS Foundation's Operation
Sight as a 2017 Power of A Gold
