EW ASCRS NEWS 8 July 2017 Dr. Khandelwal said the wet labs are going to be expanded to include more stations this year, including a focus on advanced phaco, limbal relaxing incisions, microincision glaucoma techniques, and lens folding and positioning. "At what- ever level attendees are in training, they'll walk away with hands-on ex- perience, as well as tips and pearls," Dr. Khandelwal said. There are a lot of techniques that you can refine in a lab situa- tion, Dr. Koch said. It's one thing to look at videos but another thing to get your hands on the technology. "Your comfort level in applying it to the patient goes way up when you've practiced in the wet lab," he said, adding that this year's wet labs will include some phenomenal teachers. In addition to the Ophthalmol- ogist Program and the YES Program, there will be an ASOA Practice Management Program, Nurse and Technician Program, and Optome- trist Program. This year, the Optometrist Program will be expanded, Dr. Khandelwal said. Any optometrist who works with an ophthalmologist attending the meeting is welcome to attend with their registration fee waived, she said. "If you're an ophthalmologist attending, consider inviting an optometrist who works with you." The program will take place on Saturday and Sunday and will touch on a variety of topics, including innovations in diagnostic and treatment technology, presby- opia management, glaucoma treat- ment, drug delivery, ocular surface disease, contact lenses, and more. The Practice Management Program will run all day Friday and Saturday and will delve into a variety of topics. On Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Nancey McCann, ASCRS•ASOA director of government relations, will lead a workshop on the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). Attendees will hear about some of the requirements under the new program and how they can incorporate these into practice. Other sessions will cover ASOAna- lytics and effective clinic flow. The Practice Management Program on Saturday will include updates on legislative and regulatory topics, as well as coding and billing. Other topics will include business models for new technologies, insurance, au- dits, and OD referral networks. The Saturday lunch program will focus on effective communication, offer- ing attendees techniques to help improve the quality of care through better patient comprehension, en- gagement, and satisfaction. The Nurse and Technician Program will run from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and all day on Saturday. Presentations will focus on phacodynamics, presbyopia, diagnostics and therapeutics for oc- ular surface disease, and more. This program is designed for ophthalmic registered nurses, ophthalmic tech- nicians, assistants, technologists, and others interested in the clinical care of the ophthalmic patient.
