the U.S. Funkadesi also has three
albums on iTunes.
It's been more than just a hob-
by, Dr. Singh said, noting that one of
the biggest challenges has been bal-
ancing his work and the band as the
popularity of Funkadesi has grown.
"Luckily, I have an understanding
band and family," he said. In the
event that Dr. Singh has to miss a
concert, the band has a keyboard
player who can step in.
Even when the band isn't
playing a show or is too busy to get
together, they are constantly collab-
orating on music. Dr. Singh has been
doing a lot of writing and recording
lately and has a studio in his home.
Many other band members have
studios as well.
"We've been getting together
less lately because we're all busy,"
he said. But generally, from October
until April is the "off season," he
said, so the band uses this time to
write and record. Individual mem-
bers write on their own and then
upload their tracks and share them
with the rest of the band. "We try to
get input from other members once
we come up with shell of the song,"
he said. Meanwhile, Dr. Singh said
summer is usually the time to "rock
out," and the band often plays at
concerts or festivals on the week-
ends.
In addition to recording and
performing live shows, one new
passion of Funkadesi is to help
educate about cultural diversity and
tolerance. After a successful program
for children held in Minnesota, they
plan to create a summer camp that
will focus on music and diversity.
They have also developed a program
to help educate companies in vari-
ous industries on tolerance and di-
versity through music. This furthers
Funkadesi's motto of "one family …
many children," Dr. Singh said. EW
