"ASCRS Refractive Day is the 1-day meeting you need for all of your refractive cornea and refractive IOL needs," the program chairs said. "This program is a comprehensive overview of the advances in refrac- tive surgery you need to improve your outcomes and learn about the latest techniques in this exciting subspecialty." Ralph Chu, MD, Bloomington, Minnesota, will debate on the best option for patients who don't have cataracts but don't want to wear glasses—the options being clear lens extraction and monovision versus clear lens extraction and two multifocal or extended depth-of-focus IOLs versus mini-monovision with an accom- modating IOL, respectively. Other presentations will include whether to do an IOL exchange or LASIK or PRK if a patient is hyperopic after IOL placement, and what to do about residual cylinder after a toric IOL, among other discussions. Attendees registering for either Refractive Day, Cornea Day, or Glaucoma Day will be able to cross over into the other subspecialty days' offerings, allowing delegates to pick and choose sessions that best fit their practice needs. There will also be a joint Exhibit Hall between Dr. Koch will conclude the late-morning session with the Stein- ert Refractive Lecture titled "Chal- lenges in IOL Calculations with Post-Op and Ectatic Cornea." After a break for lunch, the first afternoon session will revisit corneal refractive surgery. Deepinder Dhali- wal, MD, Pittsburgh, will argue that contact lenses are safer than LASIK in this session, while Francis Price, Jr., MD, Indianapolis, will make a case for the opposite. Other topics will include ectasia risk following LASIK, patient selection, and en- hancements. John Kanellopoulos, MD, New York, will discuss simulta- neous crosslinking, while Dan Rein- stein, MD, London, United King- dom, will present on small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). The final session of the day will cover refractive lens surgery. Along with continuing to offer Glaucoma Day and Cornea Day, ASCRS Refractive Day will feature dedicated programming for those interested in the latest advances in refractive corneal and cataract surgery. "The entire Refractive Day sym- posia will highlight the best of our specialty with lectures on advanced ablation techniques, SMILE, refrac- tive inlays, and IOLs," said pro- gram chairs Eric Donnenfeld, MD, Rockville Centre, New York, Rosa Braga-Mele, MD, Toronto, Canada, and John Vukich, MD, Madison, Wisconsin. "A specific highlight will be the first annual Steinert Refractive Lecture delivered by Doug Koch, MD [Houston]." Refractive Day, which comes with the opportunity to earn 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits, starts off at 8:00 a.m. with a cornea refrac- tive surgery session. Doyle Stulting, Jr., MD, PhD, Atlanta, will discuss what refractive surgeons need to know about corneal topography. Other presentations will include PRK, advanced techniques in LASIK, managing the ocular surface, the Patient Reported Outcomes With LASIK (PROWL) studies, and a LASIK world literature review by Kerry Sol- omon, MD, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The second session from 10:00 a.m. to noon will cover refractive cataract surgery with discussions about building a refractive cataract practice, risk of retinal complica- tions with lens surgery, and finding the axis for astigmatic treatment, limbal relaxing incisions, femtosec- ond arcuate incisions and intrastro- mal ablations, and IOL formulas.
