EW NEWS & OPINION August 2016 17 Editors' note: Dr. Arbisser is adjunct professor, Moran Eye Center, University of Utah, Salt Lake City. She has finan- cial interests with Mynosys. procedure may seem, it's the loss of this Nd:YAG income in a fee for ser- vice medical economy that could be a problem for individual adaptation. It would, however, save Medicare, or collectively any socialized system, billions of dollars and be a blessing for the developing world. Whether or not it could be designated a "pre- mium procedure" for refractive pur- poses is beyond my scope of knowl- edge. Although over many years I have not seen UGH syndrome with anterior optic captured 3-piece sul- cus lenses, it remains to be proven that sulcus haptics are benign. Since my description, Cathleen McCabe has successfully performed the procedure as has Tom Oetting. I look forward to a planned live rabbit study with Liliana Werner and Nick Mamalis at the University of Utah to compare standard pediatric vitrector rhexis and anterior vitrectomy, stan- dard posterior optic capture (button- hole) and SBCC. I am certain we will find that sparing the hyaloid and abandoning the bag for the optic in Berger's space will confer myriad advantages and usher in a new era for cataract surgery as a final visual rehabilitation.
