Nurse and Technician Program The Nurse and Technician Program features 1.5 days of comprehen- sive, interactive education directed toward ophthalmic nurses and allied health personnel. ASOA Practice Management Program The ASOA Practice Management Program begins with an optional Friday workshop, "How to Build Trust, Credibility and Respect," con- ducted by the Dale Carnegie group. The Saturday schedule includes a continental breakfast, an interactive patient activation lunch, and ses- sions featuring exceptional speakers on the following topics: • Legislative and regulatory update • Medicare coding update • Personal sustainability • Patient activation: Motivating patients to take an active role in their eye health • Leadership skills: 7 behaviors for success learned from a football coach • Audits and appeals: Crucial concepts "ASOA is pleased to participate in the 2016 Combined Ophthalmic Symposium as part of our regional meeting program that provides prac- tice management staff with conve- nient, alternative opportunities for face-to-face education," said Laureen Rowland, ASOA executive director. She noted that 94% of attendees of the 2015 ASOA Practice Manage- ment Program at COS were "highly satisfied" and would recommend the program to their colleagues. Additionally, 74% of participants expected to change their practice as a result of what they learned in the program. "ASOA is a member-centric organization, and we strive to make our meeting content as relevant as possible," Ms. Rowland said. "The COS program is an excellent exam- ple of that philosophy." Optometrist Program The COS Optometrist Program is geared toward optometrists who work in an ophthalmic practice. The program chairs are Derek Cunningham, OD; Walter Whitley, OD; and Ahmad Fahmy, OD.
