54 EW ASCRS•ASOA 2016 ASCRS•ASOA Program Preview • May 6–10, 2016 Monday, May 9 Presenters will show video cases in the "Complicated and Challenging Cases in Cataract Surgery Video Symposium." Panelists and present- ers will discuss a variety of issues, and audience members will vote for the "best teaching case" at the end of the session. The symposium will take place from 8:00–9:30 a.m. Also on Monday morning will be the "ASCRS Military Refractive Surgery" symposium where attend- ees can learn about military refrac- tive surgery from a variety of presen- tations and resident research papers. It will be held from 8:00–9:30 a.m. Covering cataract and refrac- tive topics as well as cornea, the "Controversies in Anterior Segment Surgery" symposium will take place from 1:00–2:30 p.m. and will focus on femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery, topography-guid- ed ablation in LASIK, and corneal crosslinking. Tuesday, May 10 With a focus on the femtosecond laser, the "Four Years of Femtosec- ond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery" symposium will look at this topic from 8:00–9:30 a.m. The "Best of the Best: Update on Advanced Cataract Surgery" course will highlight advances in technol- ogy, IOLs, phaco machines, and femtosecond laser indications. The course will occur from 8:00–9:30 a.m. Meanwhile, "X-Rounds: Refrac- tive Cataract Surgery to the Max," will cover refractive cataract surgery from 10:00–11:30 a.m. That session will highlight new advances in technology. Cataract and refractive topics will be the focus of a number of papers sessions, including Tues- day's "Digital Markers, Guidance, Capsulotomy" from 10:00–11:30 a.m. Topics to be discussed include toric IOL implantation and marking techniques, as well as strategies for capsulorhexis completion. EW by Ellen Stodola EyeWorld Senior Staff Writer "Bringing Back LASIK: Where Do We Go From Here?" will occur from 1:00–2:30 p.m. The course titled "New and Emerging Technologies in Cataract and Refractive Surgery" will look at a number of innovations, including DMEK, intracorneal lenses, and the femtosecond laser. This course will take place from 1:00–2:30 p.m. "The 2016 Cataract Surgery Olympics" will feature teams of sur- geons from different regions around the world (North America, Asia- Pacific, Latin America, and Europe/ Middle East) competing to highlight different cataract issues. The sym- posium is sponsored by the ASCRS Cataract Clinical Committee and will be held from 3:00–4:30 p.m. In the "Symposium of Challeng- ing Cases," sponsored by BRACRS, presenters will discuss complications in cataract, refractive, and cornea surgery. The session will run from 3:00–4:30 p.m. ALACCSA-R sponsored session on "Management of Complicated Cases in Cataract and Refractive Surgery." International surgeons will share their experiences with techniques and strategies for different surgical indications from 3:00–5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 8 This year's Combined Symposium of Cataract and Refractive Societ- ies (CSCRS) is titled "Combined Symposium of Cataract and Refrac- tive Societies featuring the 'Best of Previous CSCRS Meetings.'" It will take place from 8:00–9:30 a.m. It is co-sponsored by ASCRS, APACRS, ESCRS, and ALACCSA-R/LASCRS, and will feature the best presenta- tions from the organizations and focus on techniques and technologies around the world, with international experts weighing in. A symposium dedicated to the topic of LASIK will highlight patient outcomes and satisfaction, current technology, and the industry, as well as "next generation" products. T he ASCRS•ASOA Sympo- sium & Congress offers a variety of general sessions, symposia, paper sessions, courses, skills transfer ses- sions, and more, with many focus- ing on cataract and refractive topics. Saturday, May 7 A symposium titled "Challenging Video Cases for the Young Surgeon" and sponsored by the ASCRS Young Eye Surgeons (YES) Clinical Commit- tee will look at challenging surgical video cases relating to cataract and refractive surgery topics. Speakers at the session will discuss how they would handle each of these cases. The session will take place from 1:00–2:30 p.m. A "Phaco Fundamentals" course from 1:00–2:30 p.m. will highlight basic principles for phacoemulsifica- tion. Machine parameters and other techniques for successful phaco will be discussed.
