Upcoming column topics will range from clinical subjects, such as astigmatism management, approaching difficult cases, and complex IOL calculations, to busi- ness aspects like contracting, person- nel management, and how to find a job, Dr. Lee said. She added that she hopes the column will not only strengthen fundamentals for young eye surgeons but will "turn into a section where we are keeping a pulse on what questions arise." Dr. Yeu said establishing this column demonstrates ASCRS' com- mitment to surgical education. "ASCRS is the society for the surgical foundation and education of all eye surgeons," she said. "It is evident that there are numerous areas that are of interest, especially to surgeons who are further along in their training. We hope to be able to support that through smaller meet- ings, webinars, monthly columns such as this, as well as at the annual meeting." "The ASCRS leaders encour- aged the YES Clinical Committee to think of ways to serve our constit- uents better and increase the value of membership, and we hope that young ophthalmologists find this worthwhile," Dr. Lee said. YES members are encouraged to reach out to Dr. Lee and Dr. Weber with any ideas or questions and if they wish to volunteer to be a YES expert or a guest columnist. "One of our goals is to start a more active dialogue among YES members," Dr. Weber said. "We hope that the YES column will serve as a jumping-off point for discus- sions among members, whether it be co-residents, faculty and resi- dents, or members across the globe through YES' online resources such as its Facebook page. "We hope that residents will find the content in the magazine more approachable and of greater interest, regardless of whether they ultimately decide to go on to fel- lowships and subspecialties outside of the scope of ASCRS," he said. "The knowledge to be gained from the ASCRS community is immense, and we hope that this column will provide important access to that knowledge."
