Cornea Society News – published quarterly by the Cornea Society 3 While you are at the ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress, be sure to attend the Cornea Society symposium on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Tony Aldave, MD, has put together a cutting-edge symposium on "Trending Now: What's Hot." Come and hear the latest updates on tissue sealants, corneal ectasia surgical techniques, collagen crosslinking in the U.S., and infectious keratitis management. Learn more about dry eye diagnosis and management, endothelial keratoplasty, and limbal stem cell surgery. There are learning opportunities for all. Our society is in great shape. Our past president, Chris Rapuano, MD, did an amazing job moving us in the right direction, and he continues to be actively participating in the society. We are truly lucky to have had Chris as president of our society for the past 2 years. The World Cornea Congress VII was a huge success. Cornea Subspecialty Day at the 2015 American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual meeting had the best attendance to date, thanks to the great work of the organizers, Bennie Jeng, MD, Steve Kaufman, MD, and Shahzad Mian, MD. Please join me in thanking our new executive committee for their generous willingness to serve our society. Elmer Tu, MD, is our new president elect, and Kathryn Colby, MD, PhD, is our new secretary/treasurer. In an era of decreasing funding from industry, we not only survived but flourished, with the help of Terry Kim, MD, who has passed the torch to Barry Lee, MD, as the new vice president for industry relations. Bennie Jeng, MD, is our new vice president for international relations. Bennie is taking over for Michael Belin, MD, who after 6 years of building invalu- able relationships has insured our society's participation in numerous international meetings including: SOE, DOG, APAO, WOC, MEACO, PAAO, ACS, APACRS, PanCornea, SICSSO, ESCRS, and RANZCO. In fact, our recognition of how much we learn from our colleagues around the world has led to our decision to take WCC VIII on the road. Mark you calendar for the next World Cornea Congress in Singapore in July 2020. Tony Aldave, MD, our new scientific program chair, is already hard at work planning our symposium for the 2016 AAO annual meeting in Chicago; for now, we will keep that content a secret. In addition, he is hard at work on the next ASCRS program as well as the Fall Educational Symposium held before the AAO annual meeting. This is by far the most educational day of the AAO meeting, so don't miss it. Save the date for October 14, 2016. Check the meeting website for information, fallsymposium.corneasociety. org. The call for papers and meeting registration open June 2016. We are truly following our mission statement: The Cornea Society is an international society to promote the exchange of information in cornea and external disease. We have an exceptional Board of Directors including Esen Akpek, MD, Eduardo Alfonso, MD, Deepinder Dhaliwal, MD, Luigi Fontana, MD, Choun-Ki Joo, MD, Stephen Kaufman, MD, Shahzad Mian, MD, Francis Price, MD, and Shigeto Shimmura, MD. Please congratulate this esteemed group and contact them to discuss the future of our society. Our executive director, Gail Albert, remains at our helm keeping us all on course. She can be contacted at Galbert@CorneaSociety.org. There is always more to learn, and now we need to learn from each of you, our membership. Our future requires engagement of our membership, young and old. This spring we will begin a long-range planning process to help de- termine how the Cornea Society can meet your needs. Help us set the course for our society over the next 5 years. We need and want your input. Email me at mmacsai@northshore.org or contact one of the members of our outstanding Board of Directors. Visit our website at www.corneasociety.org. Let us know how we can better meet your needs. Get involved! We plan to have small focus groups during the ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress. If you are contacted, please participate. If you are interested in being included, contact Gail Albert. I am humbled and honored to serve as your president. As a lifelong learner, I have always believed "To lead, one must follow" (Lao Tzu, 604–531 BC). In essence, each of you is a leader. This is your society, so participate! Let's teach each other how to improve the care we give our patients and how to improve ourselves. Sincerely, Marian S. Macsai, MD President, Cornea Society
