EW NEWS & OPINION 4 February 2016 With an increase in nurses, especially those working in ambula- tory surgery centers (ASC), coming to the meeting in years past, ASCRS has expanded its program this year to include more offerings over a 3-day period. Instead of just having a 2-room program, the Technicians & Nurses Program will have 3 rooms devoted to the clinical, the surgical, and the ASC aspects of ophthalmol- ogy for a total of 54 courses with the opportunity to earn up to 18 con- tinuing medical education (CME) credits. ASCRS' Lecture on Science, Medicine, and Technology will feature Kevin Pho, MD, who will speak on how ophthalmologists can use social media to make a differ- ence in their field. "He is a physician who is very knowledgeable in new technolo- gy, which is becoming extremely important in all of our lives but is also being applied to the way we obtain information and interact with patients," Dr. Holland said. "He will talk about new technology in medicine and how it might apply to ophthalmologists." Attendees will have the oppor- tunity to earn up to 36 ASCRS CME credits—more through EyeWorld programming—with some sessions being eligible for self-assessment CME credits. Young Eye Surgeons (YES) pro- gramming has been expanded this year and will feature a skills transfer session specifically for residents and fellows. Residents, fellows, and sur- geons in their first 5 years of practice will have exclusive access to the YES Connect Lounge where they can ask in-depth questions of experts on everything from contract writing to choosing a practice to more general career advice. This lounge will also feature networking opportunities with ASCRS leadership, a selfie sta- tion, and a YES giveaway. Dr. Holland also invites all at- tendees to the ASCRS Kentucky Der- by Party, hosted by ASCRS•ASOA, on Saturday, May 6, which will feature this most exciting event on a big screen in the main ballroom.
