Special meetings and sessions Young ophthalmologists (YOs) face many challenges in their transition from training to practice. During the 2015 YO program on Sunday, November 15 from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., members of the AAO YO Committee, along with other experts, will address topics that are vital to YOs in their first few years of practice. In the first part of the session, "Pearls for Building a Solid Clinical Foundation," speakers will share tips on all things clinical, from avoiding medical errors to building and main- taining surgical skills throughout a career. The second part of the ses- sion, "Put Your Pearls into Practice," will give YOs a complete toolkit for launching a successful practice, focusing on matters of work/life bal- ance, management of medical/legal issues, and personal finance. Also taking place on Sunday is the "Q&A with FDA" session, where attendees will be able to hear the lat- est information about the drug and device approval process and news af- fecting ophthalmic products straight from Food and Drug Administration (FDA) experts. A special session on Monday, November 16 will focus on changes that impact eyecare for veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forc- es. In "Serving Those Who Serve: Changes Impacting VA and DOD Eye Care," representatives from the Association of Veterans Affairs Ophthalmologists and the Society of Military Ophthalmologists will discuss the evolution of refractive surgery in the Department of Defense (DOD) and efforts to improve access to care for military veterans.
