EW NEWS & OPINION 10 July 2015 For Simplifying My Life The LENSAR Laser System – fs 3D (LLS-fs 3D) is intended for use in patients undergoing cataract surgery for removal of the crystalline lens. Intended uses in cataract surgery include anterior capsulotomy, laser phacofragmentation, and the creation of full and partial thickness single-plane and multi- plane arc cuts/incisions in the cornea, which may be performed either individually or consecutively during the same procedure. Laser Capsulotomy, laser phacofragmentation and/or corneal incisions surgery is contraindicated in patients: who are of pediatric age, whose pupils will not dilate or remain dilated to a diameter greater than that of the intended treatment and for capsulotomies and/or laser phacofragmentation with intended diameters of less than 4 mm or greater than 7 mm, who have existing corneal implants, who have previous corneal incisions that might provide a potential space into which the gas produced by the procedure can escape, who have conditions that would cause inadequate clearance between the intended capsulotomy cut and the corneal endothelium, such as: hypotony, uncontrolled glaucoma, who have corneal disease or pathology that precludes transmission of light at the laser wavelength or causes distortion of laser light, such as: corneal opacities, residual, recurrent, active ocular or uncontrolled eyelid disease or any corneal abnormalities (including endothelial dystrophy, guttata, recurrent corneal erosion, etc.) in the eye to be treated, ophthalmoscopic signs of keratoconus (or keratoconus suspect) in the eye to be treated, a history of severe dry eye that has not responded to therapy, or a history of herpes zoster or herpes simplex keratitis. Potential contraindications are not limited to those included in the list. WARNING: The safety and effectiveness of this laser have NOT been established in patients with diabetic retinopathy, a history of uncontrolled glaucoma, or prior intraocular surgery. © 2015 LENSAR, Inc. Let us show you how you can Streamline your refractive cataract procedures. Go to www.LENSAR.com to learn more about LENSAR with Streamline. Combined Ophthalmic Symposium continued from page 3 will feature a discussion on phaco settings and techniques, while the second half of the session, "Phaco Fundamentals: What Lens Would You Put In?" will feature case presen- tations of difficult lens choices and IOL calculations. Saturday's second session will feature presentations on glaucoma care as well as a brand-new session on retinal disease. In "Expanding the Glaucoma Toolbox," faculty members will highlight innovations in glaucoma progression diagnostics and treatment options to address pa- tient compliance. The new "Retina Review" session will give attendees an update on retinal diseases and treatments. Saturday's afternoon sessions will return to the topic of cataracts. In "Continuing the Premium Cataract Conversation," faculty members will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of premium cata- ract technology and offer attendees pearls for operating on premium patients. The last session of the day will be a video symposium focusing on toys, traps, and tricks in anterior segment surgery, including IOL ex- changes, pearls for using the Malyu- gin ring, and fluidics complications. Sunday Sunday's opening session, "Anteri- or Segment Round Up," will cover topics in cornea, refractive surgery, and presbyopia correction. During "Cornea Challenges and Controver- sies," faculty members will compare and contrast DMEK and DSEK pro- cedures and discuss management of mild to moderate corneal disease. During the second part of the session, "Refractive Surgery and Presbyopia Correction," faculty members will discuss options for presbyopia treatment, patient selec- tion for refractive surgery, and strat- egies for refractive enhancements. The physicians program will close with a second video sympo- sium titled, "What Am I Doing NEW in 2015?" In this interactive session, faculty members will discuss the benefits of new technologies and surgical techniques they have adopted, from real-time OCT in the OR to IOL exchange using the femtosecond laser.
