EW NEWS & OPINION April 2015 13 from the top, where David Karcher and Donald Bell embody excel- lence and class in their leadership of ASCRS. We've all strived to make EyeWorld a useful resource for you, staff and writers for their dedica- tion and strong support behind the scenes. Starting with Stephanie Graham, Jena Passut, and now Erin L. Boyle and Stacy Majewicz, I could not have had more talented and enthusiastic editors to work with. Their ability to implement so many new ideas and columns has been Herculean, despite the ex- tra demands and deadlines that these efforts created. Our visionary publisher Donald Long has not only assembled the superb publishing team listed in our masthead, but also overseen tremendous growth in EyeWorld's readership, advertis- ing, educational events, and global reach. Finally, I am excited to an- nounce that Eric Donnenfeld, MD, will be your next EyeWorld chief medical editor. Like my predecessors at the helm of EyeWorld—Marguerite McDonald, MD, Stephen Obstbaum, MD, Stephen Lane, MD, and Edward Holland, MD—Eric is a past ASCRS president who is one of the tallest pillars of our organization. He is a thought leader in the areas of ocular pharmacology, external disease, and cataract, cornea, MIGS, and refrac- tive surgery. Quite remarkably, Eric is not merely a "jack of all trades," but genuinely a master of them all. This makes him uniquely qualified to lead EyeWorld forward. Coinci- dentally, Eric was my immediate successor as co-chief medical editor of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today in 2008, and as ASCRS president in 2013. I would like to pretend that this makes me his "mentor," but in fact, the opposite is true. Through- out our many shared endeavors, I've been impressed by Eric's creativity, objectivity, productivity, and the special insight he brings to any issue—whether a clinical trial or a regulatory/advocacy challenge. The title of this final column says it all. With EyeWorld, I have been blessed to collaborate with and learn from a collegial team of talented friends that I respect and admire. The same has been true of the ASCRS Governing Board and the ASCRS Foundation, where Dr. Lane and I, as new co-chairs, will succeed the incomparable Richard Lindstrom, MD.
