This year's topic, "Controver- sies in Anterior Segment Surgery," will feature presentations on contro- versial topics that will be debated by the ASCRS Young Eye Surgeons (YES) Committee. Experienced anterior segment surgeons will present talks on 4 con- troversial topics, which will then be debated by YES Committee panelists Elizabeth Yeu, MD, Norfolk, Va., John Berdahl, MD, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Preeya Gupta, MD, Durham, N.C. Eric Donnenfeld, MD, Rock- ville Centre, N.Y., will present the first topic, "Dropless Drug Delivery," discussing whether anterior segment surgeons should be transitioning to this method of delivering medica- tions to the eye. Douglas Koch, MD, Houston, will present the second topic, "IOL Design: Is This the Best We Can Do?" practice, biomedical research, and healthcare innovation. He is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics with clinical expertise in hematology, oncology, and bone marrow transplantation, as well as research expertise in stem cell biolo- gy and regenerative medicine. "Dr. Kraft is a well-known sci- entist, inventor, entrepreneur, and innovator," said Edward J. Holland, MD, Cincinnati, chair of the ASCRS Program Committee. "He's known for his out-of-the-box thinking and his thoughts on the future of health- care, wellness, prevention, and technology. I think attendees will not be disappointed by his talk." Dr. Kraft's ideas have helped to revolutionize the field of medicine. He holds numerous medical device, immunology, and stem cell-related patents and is the inventor of the MarrowMiner (StemCor Systems, Menlo Park, Calif.), an FDA-ap- proved device for the minimally invasive harvest of bone marrow. Dr. Kraft has founded several information technology and bio- technology companies and is also an avid pilot, serving as an officer and flight surgeon in the California Air National Guard.
