173 March 2015 EW MEETING REPORTER "To successfully report for 2015, you have a choice," Ms. McCann said. The choice is between either the Cataract Measures Group via registry or 9 individual measures from the relevant ophthalmology and general care measures in 3 NQS domains. If it is from the Cataract Measures Group, you must report 8 measures (increased from 4 in 2014), via registry for 20 patients, 50% of which must be Medicare Part B patients, she said. Ms. McCann also provided an update on the stages of EHR Mean- ingful Use. For Stage 1, 2014 was the final year to begin EHR Meaningful Use and qualify for incentive pay- ments. Stage 2 has the same number of EHR objectives: 17 core objec- tives and 3 of 6 menu objectives. It also retains the scope of practice exclusion where all 3 vital signs of height, weight, and blood pressure have no relevance to their scope of practice. Additionally, there are 2 measures that require patients to take action: patient electronic access and secure electronic messaging. She also reported that CMS announced it would be releasing a proposed change to Stage 2, which would amend the reporting time period from 1 year to 3 months and could include other changes requested by ASCRS•ASOA and the medical com- munity. Meanwhile, Stage 3 Mean- ingful Use will begin Jan. 1, 2017 for providers who have completed at least 2 years in Stage 2, she said, and the rule should be released shortly. Ms. McCann encouraged phy- sicians and administrators to get involved and advocate for priorities in ophthalmology. She suggested communicating with members of Congress with visits, phone calls, and emails because that can real- ly make a difference. You have to illustrate the impact that all of these issues have on patient care, she said. Editors' note: Ms. McCann has no related financial interests.
