Apart from being a thriving
cosmopolitan capital, Kuala Lumpur
"also boasts convenient access to a
wide variety of natural attractions,
including beaches, island resorts,
virgin rainforests, and some of the
best diving sites in the world," said
APACRS leaders and organizers
Graham Barrett, MD, president
of APACRS, Ronald Yeoh, MD,
secretary of APACRS, Y.C. Lee, MD,
organizing chairman, and Fang
Seng Kheong, MD, organizing
co-chairman.
In addition to participating in
the stimulating scientific program,
they invite attendees to "experience
Malaysia's rich heritage of culture,
food, and natural wonders!"
In particular, they have invited
attendees to not just explore Kuala
Lumpur but to also venture out into
the rest of Penang, which offers
"the best of Asia." "With its sandy
shores and vast open sea, Penang's
beach area Batu Ferringhi offers an
amazing respite from the hustle and
bustle of town." During the day,
attendees can soak in the "soothing
sound of lapping waves" and bask in
the sun, while at night the popular
tourist belt comes alive with hawk-
ers selling wares and the very best of
the local cuisine.
The Batu Ferringhi night market
offers wood carvings, silver jewelry,
and crockery.
"For those who love to drink
and party," APACRS organizers
recommend the Upper Penang Road
party hotspot in George Town,
which "comes alive when the sun
descends on the horizon." The hot
spot features pubs, karaoke lounges,
and clubs with live bands.
Meanwhile, more adventurous
and/or budget-conscious backpack-
ers can "chill and bond" in little
budget motels, coffee shops, and
watering holes that serve relative-
ly cheap drinks on nearby Chulia
Street. EW
