EW NEWS & OPINION 22 November 2014 and shopping centers, as well as di- rect links to all the tourist highlights in and around this vibrant city. You can read about history, or you can be a part of it. This is a per- sonal invitation for you to consider visiting South Africa. When you go, you will be impressed with the friendliness of the people and their pleasure at your enjoyment. When you participate in their professional meetings and teach in their centers of learning, you will be impressed with their up-to-the-minute technol- ogy. South Africa is the most excit- ing "new country" in the world. It will remind you of the United States of the 1950s in many ways, but the image that stays with frequent visi- tors to that fabulous country is the beauty of the countryside contrasted with modern and sparkling clean cities. Tribal villages and farms on rolling hills contrast with tourist- friendly cities like Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, and Port Elizabeth. I'm convinced that this is the most beautiful country in the world with people determined to make it the leader among developing nations. Many people are surprised at South Africa's cutting edge technol- ogy in business as well as medicine. This is a country on the move, and I'd like to invite you to join me and ophthalmologists from many other nations in celebrating the 16th Congress of the Southern African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery as they meet at the Westin Hotel Complex in Cape Town on August 19–22, 2015. Please contact organizer Christi Truter at sascrs@consider-it-done. info for the adventure of a lifetime.
