Review key uveitis, retina and corneal issues • Identify the true impact of ocular inflammation levels on outcomes in refractive cataract surgery: a. Variability in visual acuity and quality results b. Delayed visual recovery that reduces the postoperative "wow" factor c. Pain and discomfort that reduce patient satisfaction • Acquire strategies to eliminate inflammation and relieve pain by maximizing the penetration of anti-inflammatory agents into target tissues • Develop key adjustments to perioperative therapeutic strategies for preventing inflammation specific to those with predisposing factors and in routine cases without predisposing factors • Assess the clinical impact of various levels of ultrasound energy applied during cataract surgery and the amount of reduction in these levels available with laser cataract technology for specific types of patients Saturday, October 18 Three Tipping Points in Refractive Cataract Surgery: Status Report on the Continuum Toward Super Vision, Phaco-less Cataract Surgery, & Presbyop ia Correction Without Compromise Supported by an unrestricted educational grant from Abbott Medical Optics Inc. Astigmatism management b. Effective lens position c. Effective phaco time/energy • Identify the new level of diagnostic information that can be obtained and treated on both the cornea and the entire optical system to better understand the minute aberrations that impact the origins of patients' visual quality and satisfaction a. Demonstrate the benefits and practice implications of assessing LVC outcomes beyond 20/20 UCVA • Increase knowledge of the clinical impact of both chromatic aberration and depth of focus to improve proper lens selection and maximize the visual quality in today's presbyopic patients
