the political and other factors. In my mind, the role from the platoon prospective is still very vivid. I know the young faces, their jobs, and in some cases the names of wives and sweethearts. My 92nd birthday will be cele- brated in 2014. Young people ask me if I was ever in the service. I say that I was in WWII and all subsequent operations as a professional officer until retirement in 1971, as a mili- tary base commander. Some have never heard of WWII. A veteran of WWII was introduced to an audi- ence as a WW eleven survivor. I have seen TV news spots where a young Russian bride and groom would place flowers at a memorial to honor the Russian soldiers and civilians that perished in what they called the Great Patriotic War. I hope our successive generations will be taught to understand the price older generations have paid for their liberty. May God continue to bless America. During the Korean War, Vietnam, Cuban Missile Crisis, Dominican Revolution, and other assignments, my military duties re- quired my absence from important family events like First Holy Com- munion, school graduations, wed- dings, and the like. My children have no knowledge of my service. They only know that Dad was in the Army. For that reason I am drafting a book from my WWII notes and letters for them with the title My Journey. It is intended for family distribution in about a year. Dr. Chang: Colonel, it is truly an honor to meet you and to be able to personally thank you for your coura- geous service to our country.
