The lens was implanted inside a corneal pocket created in the non-dominant eye of 20 emmetropic patients. Mean un- corrected visual acuity for near in- creased from 20/100 to 20/25, for distance decreased from 20/20 to 20/40 in the operated eye, and re- mained stable binocularly. An inter- esting observation was that distance vision was less influenced than in "classic" monovision. In fact, simu- lating pre-op the far vision using spectacles with the same refractive power of the inlay that was planned to be implanted demonstrated that far vision should be 20/100 instead of 20/40 post-op. This permits us to correct fully near vision in the non- dominant eye without influencing binocular far vision. Wavefront analysis demonstrated that the effect of the inlay was pupil dependent, in- creasing in near vision and decreas- ing in far, when the diameter of the pupil was decreased and increased, respectively. After surgery 92% re- ported no use of reading glasses and 8% reported use of reading glasses for less than half of their near activi- ties. In conclusion, intracorneal lenses for the treatment of presby- opia using the femtosecond laser provided a safe, efficient, and re- versible method for the treatment of presbyopia in emmetropes between 45 and 60 years old.
