I n the nearly 15 years since its inception, EyeWorld has distinguished itself as the voice of ASCRS and a leading educational resource for its readers. The U.S. print edi- tion now reaches more than 22,000 ophthalmologists worldwide, including every ophthalmologist and resi- dent in the United States. In addition to being mailed to every international ASCRS member, EyeWorld publishes an APACRS edition in India, China (Mandarin), and the Pacific Rim. We also licence our publication to RSCRS in Russia (Russian) and publish content in Foco (Portugese) in Brazil. EyeWorld owes so much of this success to the leadership of its editorial board and the vision of its distinguished line- age of chief medical editors. Stephen Obstbaum, M.D., suc- ceeded EyeWorld's inaugural chief medical editor, Marguerite McDonald, M.D., in 2002. Stephen Lane, M.D., became co- chief medical editor 2 years later in 2004 and was joined by Edward Holland, M.D., in 2009. It is a tremendous honor for me to now have the opportunity to follow such an accomplished group of chief medical editors. As I attempt to step into these formidable shoes, we have re-structured EyeWorld's medical editorship to include five associate editors who will direct the magazine's content in each of four major subject areas. I am very excited to an- nounce that our new associate editors will be Bonnie Henderson, M.D. (cataract), Kerry Solomon, M.D. (refractive), Edward Holland, M.D. (cornea), and Reay Brown, M.D. (glaucoma). In addition, John Vukich, M.D., will become our interna- tional associate editor, as we seek to draw more global input to the magazine. I am also delighted to introduce Stephanie Graham, our new editor, and Stacy Majewicz, our new assistant editor. Having just concluded our initial editorial meetings at the Annual Meeting in San Diego, I am truly excited to be able to introduce and work with this energetic new team. With so many different trade magazines competing for readers' attention, our goal is to continue to provide timely and balanced coverage of the most clinically relevant subjects for our broad and diverse base of readers. We will soon reorganize our editorial board and will continue to draw on the ASCRS clinical committees for input and expertise. With our newly inaugurated ASCRS president, Ed Holland, staying on as cornea section leader, this issue marks the retirement of long-time chief medical editors Steve Obstbaum and Steve Lane. ASCRS in general and EyeWorld in particular have benefited enormously from their dedication and leadership. Steve Lane is a past pres- ident of ASCRS and has been an influential leader in cataract education for both ASCRS and AAO. As one of the most respected cataract and refractive surgeons, he has kept EyeWorld on the cutting edge of both of these fields during their historic convergence through the premium refractive IOL channel. As the only individual to have served as both AAO and ASCRS president, Steve Obstbaum has been a strong pillar for both organizations. He was a founding member of the implant society that eventually became ASCRS and served as JCRS editor for two decades. Steve's insis- tence on credible and balanced coverage, by which our writers always interview mul- tiple sources, has become a trademark of EyeWorld. Please join me in saluting and thanking them both. David Chang, M.D. Clinical professor of ophthalmology, University of California, San Francisco EyeWorld chief medical editor April 2011 David F.
