Fishkind, M.D., Tucson, Ariz., chair of the Film Festival judges' panel. Noting the Festival serves one central function—educa- tion—he added "the commitment of our member producers is the raison d'être that the ASCRS Film Festival is the leading, most influential, and most prominent film festival" in ophthalmology. For those who have never at- tended a film festival, Dr. Fishkind recommended setting aside 30 min- utes to an hour to view the films of most interest. Fishkind, M.D., ASCRS Film Festival chair "The course goes over real-life patients to demonstrate common problems," Dr. Stonecipher said. "It's designed to cover the treatment of patients who have premium IOL de- sires, how to determine who is a good candidate, how to improve techniques and outcomes, and how to deal with patients pre-operatively and post-operatively." Attendees will benefit from pan- elists' varying opinions by discover- ing a variety of ways to handle common problems, Dr. Buznego said. "Last year's session was exciting because of very pertinent case pre- sentations that illustrated real-life situations that surgeons confront, such as irregular topographies, what type of IOL to use in certain pa- tients, and how to handle post- LASIK patients," said Y. Ralph Chu, M.D., adjunct associate professor of ophthalmology, University of Min- nesota, Minneapolis, and clinical professor of ophthalmology, Univer- sity of Utah, Salt Lake City. "I think the best part of the course is the panel interaction. To hear very expe- rienced surgeons discussing their ap- proaches is a powerful learning opportunity."
