EW NEWS & OPINION 3 T he ASCRS Symposium on Cataract, IOL & Refractive Surgery and the ASOA Con- gress on Ophthalmic Prac- tice Management will be held in San Diego from March 25 to 29, 2011. With only a few months until the main event, its time to gear up and get excited for some of the special events ASCRS and ASOA have put together. There will be plenty of time for socializing during the San Diego meeting. The eyePAC Reception sets sail on March 25 on the California Spirit Cruise from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. The ASCRS Foundation's Party in the City will also be held on March 25, but from 8 PM to mid- night at the New Children's Mu- seum, 200 West Island Ave. Like the Spirit Cruise, registration is required. Vasavada, F.R.C.S, medical and research director, Raghudeep Eye Clinic, India, will be presented with the Binkhorst Medal during the Binkhorst Lecture "Pedi- atric Cataract: The Compelling Quest," which will examine the problems associated with pediatric cataracts. The results of a random- ized clinical trial of aphakia versus pseudophakia in pediatric eyes will also be reported. This lecture will be held on March 27. The 2011 Charles D. Kelman In- novator's Lecturer is Richard L. Lind- strom, M.D., founder and attending surgeon, Minnesota Eye Consult- ants, and adjunct professor emeritus, department of ophthalmology, Uni- versity of Minnesota. Dr. Lindstrom will give a talk on "Thoughts on the Ophthalmologists Role in Education and Innovation," which will review and define the problems and needs in the preservation, restoration, and enhancement of vision for the indi- vidual and society as a whole. He will also touch on working with in- dustry and government to find solu- tions to those needs and problems, as well as how to deliver quality care in a compassionate and cost-effec- tive manner. The lecture will be held on March 28. The 29th Annual Film Festival Awards will kick off on March 28 with a reception at 4:30 PM followed by the awards ceremony between 5 and 6 PM. Winner and runner-up place prizes will be awarded in 10 categories, as well as one grand prize for best overall video. The films cover a broad range of topics, show- ing the most current innovations in anterior segment surgery.
