SUMMER 2025 | EYEWORLD | 3 by Sumit "Sam" Garg, MD Chief Medical Editor treatments and techniques. A shift toward pa- tient-centered care emphasizes the importance of considering the individual's unique needs, preferences, and circumstances when develop- ing treatment plans. This approach recognizes that successful outcomes depend not only on the effectiveness of the intervention but also on the patient's understanding of the pros, cons, and limitations of the proposed intervention. Interdisciplinary collaboration is another crucial aspect of advancing ophthalmic care. By fostering partnerships among ophthalmologists, optometrists, researchers, and other healthcare professionals, we can leverage diverse expertise to develop more comprehensive and effective treatment strategies. This collaborative ap- proach is particularly important in addressing complex conditions that may have systemic implications. The development of new ophthalmic treatments, techniques, and mindsets requires a multifaceted approach that encompasses phar- maceutical innovations, surgical advancements, diagnostic technologies, and patient-centered care strategies. By embracing these diverse ar- eas of progress and fostering a culture of contin- uous improvement, the field of ophthalmology can continue to enhance visual outcomes and quality of life for our patients.
