APRIL 2023 | EYEWORLD | 45 Although her schedule is hectic, Dr. Ndume makes it a point to see her patients the mornings after surgery. Source: SEE International SEE International, and her career as an eye surgeon dedicated to serving the poor began. For the last 25 years, working with SEE In- ternational's steadfast support, generous supply donations of Alcon Surgical, and the support of the Namibian government, she has led the Namibian Blindness Prevention Project, which has provided free sight restorative surgery to more than 55,000 patients blinded by cataracts. Through her efforts, the Namibian Blindness Prevention Project is now largely a self-sustain- ing organization, staffed by Helena and five other well-trained Namibian surgeons, and a committed group of SEE International volunteer surgeons from around the world. In acknowledgment of her years of work in the service of humanity, Helena has received numerous awards and accolades, including the inaugural Nelson Mandela Award, a prestigious honor conferred by the United Nations only once every 5 years. This year, Marlene Moster, MD, will deliver the Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, Lecture at the ASCRS Annual Meeting. Dr. Moster's lecture will be titled "Glaucoma Surgery: The Next Level." She plans to discuss the problems with current glaucoma surgical options and highlight future devices and techniques that may help make glaucoma surgery more efficacious, with fewer compli- cations and a goal of faster recovery. Dr. Moster is an attending glaucoma sur- geon at Wills Eye Hospital and a professor of ophthalmology at the Sydney Kimmel Medical School of Thomas Jefferson University. Her research focus has been in pharmacologic advancements and surgical interventions for the treatment of glaucoma. She has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications, been invited to deliver several named lectures at medical conferences, and has trained hundreds of residents and glaucoma fellows. Dr. Moster has served on the ASCRS Glaucoma Clinical Committee since 2011. The Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, Lecture and Medal, established in 2021, honors individuals who have made significant contributions to one of the areas of Dr. Lindstrom's ophthal- mic interests, including cataract, cornea, refractive, and glaucoma.
