34 | EYEWORLD | DECEMBER 2022 ATARACT C by Rosa Braga-Mele, MD Cataract Editor A t this time of the year, many of us are getting ready for the holidays and year-end events. This is not only the last issue of EyeWorld for 2022, but it will also be my last issue as Cataract Editor. I have been given the honor of staying on as Cataract Editor Emeritus, but I will definitely miss participating as actively as I have for the last 6 years. It has been an absolute pleasure evolving with the publication and learning new things. I thank my Editorial Board, those who have helped write some of the articles, and the readers for making EyeWorld a success. It would not be the same experience without everyone. I also want to take this opportunity to introduce the new Cataract Editor, Mitchell Weikert, MD, from Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, Texas, who is absolutely brilliant and funny and will be a great addition to the team. This issue of EyeWorld focuses on some hot topics, and we definitely have some in this section. Near and dear to my heart is the topic of ergonomics, both in the office and in the OR. As ophthalmologists and surgeons, we face many issues with our cervical and lumbar spine. In addition to better ways of doing things to minimize the impact on our spine, we have to remember to exercise regularly with mus- cle strengthening and stretching techniques. We must also optimize our nutritional habits. We venture into the use of NSAIDs in cataract surgery, which has always been a controversial topic, and we hear from leaders in the field as to their advice and caution for use. We also look at monovision through a new "lens." With all of the new IOLs coming to the market, blended vision (or mini-monovision) has made a resur- gence, and it helps us offer patients a new way of seeing without much visual compromise. As we usher in a new year, let us start with more knowledge and better health. I look for- ward to seeing everyone soon. Ushering in a new year As we usher in a new year, let us start with more knowledge and better health. EyeWorld would like to thank Dr. Braga-Mele for her many years of service as Cataract Editor. We appreciate the expertise and enthusiasm she has brought to the publication. We look forward to her continued involvement on the Editorial Board in the future.
