74 | EYEWORLD | JULY 2021 ATARACT C by Rosa Braga-Mele, MD Cataract Editor T his issue of EyeWorld in- cludes articles on some interesting cataract topics, such as pearls and pitfalls for premium IOLs, which will help us in navigating patient selection and addressing postop issues; how to proceed in the face of a dropped nucle- us and what signs to look for if you think the capsule may have broken; and cataract surgery in the face of zonulopathy. In addition, this issue previews the 2021 ASCRS Annual Meeting. It has been a crazy, whirlwind year, to say the least. The COVID-19 pandemic hit us hard in our practices and everyday life. We managed to muddle through at the beginning, and it actually led to an abundance of innovation with respect to managing practices and keeping us and our patients safe with Plexiglass and clean- ing procedures. We all turned to online educational outlets to be able to see familiar faces, and many meet- ings became virtual in 2020. I am excited that in July, the ASCRS Annual Meeting will be one of the first major meetings to be live in more than a year. It will be exciting to see old friends and colleagues in person and perhaps even give them a hug or elbow bump. The ASCRS Annual Meeting will be chock full of courses and papers and some very in- triguing symposia, including "Good to Great: Improving Our Approach to Refractive Cataract Surgery," "Cataract Surgery Essentials," and "X-Rounds: Refractive Cataract Surgery to the Max." I am looking forward to learning about new cataract surgery technologies and new IOL technologies that are emerging. David Chang, MD, will be moderating the new "The Refractive Bachelor(ette) in 20/Happy Paradise." In addition to the great educational content that the ASCRS Annual Meeting offers, as well as seeing old friends and making new ones, what this meeting signifies is a return to normal. It may be a new normal for now, but still, we are finally going back to in-person meetings, and the ASCRS Annual Meeting is leading the way.
