The Surgical Summit has been
rebranded as ASCRS Winter
Break
The ASCRS Winter Break meeting, formerly
known as the EyeWorld Surgical Summit, will
take place in Deer Valley from January 30–Feb-
ruary 1, 2020. Back again at the Chateaux Deer
Valley in Park City, Utah, the meeting program
features many experts in the field of ophthal-
mology discussing a wide variety of cataract,
refractive, and anterior segment surgery topics.
Nicole Fram, MD, one of the program
chairs of Winter Break, said this meeting is her
favorite meeting of the year. "It's an intimate
meeting designed for faculty/attendee inter-
action, a place to see the latest technology in
action and video sessions that highlight our
triumphs and vulnerabilities as surgeons," she
said.
This year's program will include sessions
running for the duration of the morning on all
three days, with late afternoon/evening inter-
active video sessions on Thursday and Friday.
Challenges and controversies in cataract surgery
will be a major focus of Thursday's program,
and other sessions throughout the meeting will

touch on glaucoma, meeting expectations in
refractive cataract surgery, corneal and ocular
surface disease, some of the basics and "not-
so-basics" of cataract surgery, and a legislative
update. This year's Crandall Lecture will be
given by James Davison, MD.
During the breaks in programming, there
are also many activities to enjoy in the area.
"Families are welcome, as there is designated
time for skiing or simply enjoying the town,"
Dr. Fram added.
Registration for the meeting is open. Visit
winterbreak.ascrs.org for registration and other
information about the upcoming meeting.
"Don't miss out [on] one of the best meetings
of the year," Dr. Fram said.
