2019 ASCRS ASOA Annual Meeting
attendees help raise more than $78,000
"W
hy did you choose
ophthalmology?" and
"Why do you choose
to give?" were the
questions posed on
the ASCRS Founda-
tion's Give Sight Graf-
fiti Wall sponsored by Aerie Pharmaceuticals
at this year's ASCRS ASOA Annual Meeting in
San Diego. The answers served as the inspira-
tion for artist Scott Biersack's impressive word
mural.
The ASCRS Foundation challenged meet-
ing attendees to help unlock this year's generous
$30,000 match offered by Aerie Pharmaceuti-
cals. Attendees answered the call and together
contributed $34,080. The $64,080 will enable
the expansion of the foundation's ongoing Op-
eration Sight program here in the U.S. and the
growing multi-partner physician training and
facility improvement initiative the foundation
leads in Ethiopia.

Outside the San Diego Convention Center
on Sunday morning, more than 400 runners
took to the streets alongside the harbor for the
annual 5K Run for Sight and 1K Walk. Gener-
ously supported by Johnson & Johnson Vision,
the run provided a fun opportunity for some
early morning exercise while simultaneously
raising awareness of the foundation's humani-
tarian eyecare programs. Runners and walkers
enjoyed sunny San Diego Bay views while
raising $13,923.
The top 2019 finishers were:
• 5K run: Austin Fox in 17:46.34 (male) and
Kathryn Hatch in 21:20.11 (female)
• 1K walk: Todd Wahlberg in 12:27.51 (male)
and Isabel McLean in 15:08.88 (female)
The ASCRS Foundation Board and staff
would like to thank the meeting attendees
and industry partners who helped raise more
than $78,000 to benefit the foundation's
programs.
