33 EW CITY PREVIEW Nine Inch Nails The rock band will play at the Aragon Ballroom on October 25–27. They just released their ninth studio album, Bad Witch. Tickets start at $120. Phish The ever-popular rock band Phish will be playing the Allstate Arena from October 26–28. The band was founded more than 30 years ago and is known for songs such as "You En- joy Myself," and "The Divided Sky." Tickets start at $55. EW Adler Planetarium 1300 South Lake Shore Drive 312-922-7827 www.adlerplanetarium.org The Adler Planetarium is America's first planetarium and has three different theaters with a number of shows and daily programming. It is open from 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Prices range from $12 for general ad- mission for adults to $24.95 for the basic pass to $34.95 for an all-access pass. John Hancock Observatory 875 North Michigan Avenue www.360chicago.com Now called 360 Chicago, visitors can take in views of Chicago and the Magnificent Mile from 94 floors above the ground here. It is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m.– 11:00 p.m. Prices are $21 for adults and $14 for children ages 3–11 (non-peak). You also may want to try TILT, the experience that extends visitors over the Magnificent Mile and Chicago for a downward facing view. Millennium Park 201 East Randolph Street 312-742-1168 www.cityofchicago.org Visit Chicago's Millennium Park, a 24.5-acre park in the middle of the city, with museums, events, and works of art. Cloud Gate www.cityofchicago.org This sculpture, often referred to as "The Bean," was designed by Anish Kapoor. It is made of stainless steel plates welded together and is 66 feet long by 33 feet high. It features a 12-foot-high arch with a "gate" to the chamber beneath the sculpture, with the entire structure providing reflections of Chicago's skyline and the sky. Crown Fountain www.cityofchicago.org This fountain features two 50-foot glass block towers with a reflecting pool between them. The towers show video images to represent the social spectrum of Chicago citizens. It was designed by Jaume Plensa, a Spanish artist. Jay Pritzker Pavilion www.cityofchicago.org The Jay Pritzker Pavilion is a 120-foot-high concert venue in Mil- lennium Park, with a stainless steel structure designed by Frank Gehry. Completed in 2004, the pavilion has 4,000 seats, with about 7,000 lawn seats. Lurie Garden www.luriegarden.org Lurie Garden is located within Millennium Park and was designed by Gustafson Guthrie Nichol Ltd, Piet Oudolf, and Robert Israel. Visitors are welcome to take guided Chicago attractions tours (from May to September) or self-guided tours of the gardens. The garden pays homage to the motto of the city, "Urbs in Horto" or "City in a Garden." This garden has a 15-foot-high "shoulder" hedge, a footbridge, and the physical repre- sentation of Carl Sandburg's descrip- tion of the "City of Big Shoulders." Shedd Aquarium 1200 South Lake Shore Drive 312-939-2438 www.sheddaquarium.org The Shedd Aquarium has thousands of aquatic animals to see, includ- ing stingrays, dolphins, sea lions, and turtles. It is open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. on weekends. There are also a number of exhibits and special experiences to explore. Gen- eral admission for adults is $39.95. The Field Museum 1400 South Lake Shore Drive 312-922-9410 www.fieldmuseum.org This is open daily (except Christ- mas) from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The Field Museum was originally called the Columbian Museum of Chicago and was opened in 1893. It aims to explore how the world came to be and how it can be made better. Ex- hibitions at the museum tell stories of Earth. Basic admission is $24 for adults. Willis Tower 233 South Wacker Drive 312-875-0066 theskydeck.com Formerly the Sears Tower, when the Willis Tower was completed in 1973, it was the tallest building in the world. The tower features 108 stories, coming in at 1,451 feet. The Skydeck allows visitors a trip up to floor 103. "The Ledge" experience is 1,353 feet in the air, with glass box- es that expand 4.3 feet for unique views of the city. General admission prices are $24 for adults and $16 for children. A visit to the Willis Tower is also included in a number of tour packages around the city. EW Hamilton The popular, Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton is currently play- ing at the CIBC Theatre. Tickets start at $75 but may be limited, depend- ing on the day. Hello Dolly The popular musical Hello Dolly makes a stop in Chicago on its tour starring Betty Buckley. The show will run from October 23 through November 17 at the Oriental The- atre. Tickets start at $27.
