The picture of ophthalmic professionalism

Tulsa ophthalmologist sees the world through the lens of his camera
E
nter the office of Mark J. Weiss, M.D., and you find yourself eye-to-eye with many of his photographs. The respected Tulsa oph-
thalmologist has an eye for spotting stirring subjects and scenes. His pho- tographs, also posted on his website (www.glaucomadoc.com), are replete with images of people and vistas not easily forgotten, with titles such as "Shoe Shiner," "Homeless at the
Cayote Café," "Barbara Coast," and "Dutch Canal." The transplanted Philadelphian,
who came to Oklahoma with the military during the Vietnam War where he worked in Indian health services, has been enthralled with photography since he was a child. While these days his equipment is mostly digital and state-of-the-art, back then his equipment, which he saved up for, was anything but. "The first camera that I bought was an Argus C3—it's called 'the brick,'" Dr. Weiss said. "It's a big, cumbersome camera."
