Among Dr. McDonald's many accomplish- ments, she is heralded as being the first surgeon in the world to perform laser vision correction and was a co-developer of Kaufman-McDonald epikeratophakia. "OWL wasn't aimed specifically at women ophthalmologists (though they were certainly welcome), as Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) had that base covered. We wanted to include any woman who was in- volved in ophthalmology, including executives in ophthalmic publish- ing, marketing, and public relations; practice administrators; executives in the ophthalmic service industries and professional organizations; ophthalmologists; ophthalmic re- searchers; ophthalmic nurses and OR technicians; and pharma and de- vice representatives. The goal was to set up a network for women to see their old friends, make new friends, share their stories, and advance their continued on page 78
