EW ASCRS PREVIEW 31 San Francisco dining T he city���s location on the San Francisco Bay makes it ideal for fresh fish and seafood, but you don���t want to miss all the other dining options it has to offer, with cuisine inspired from a variety of backgrounds and combinations. If it���s seafood you���re looking for, Swan Oyster Depot has continually been rated highly for, among other things, its oysters and clam chowder. There may be a long wait to dine at this restaurant, located in San Francisco���s Nob Hill neighborhood, but it also offers takeout options. Fine dining Casual dining Acquerello 1722 Sacramento St. 415-567-5432 www.acquerello.com Cuisine: Italian Consistently receiving high dining ratings in recent years, Acquerello offers Italian cuisine in a charming setting. The restaurant is in a former chapel, which was recently renovated. The restaurant offers a prix fixe menu, classic tasting menu, and seasonal tasting menu. Aziza 5800 Geary Blvd. 415-752-2222 www.aziza-sf.com Cuisine: Moroccan Chef Mourad Lahlou opened Aziza in 2001, with the idea of serving modern Moroccan food, inspired from his former home in Marrakesh. Aziza offers a variety of Moroccan food including meat and fish dishes. The restaurant is located in the Richmond district. Boulevard 1 Mission St. 415-543-6084 www.boulevardrestaurant.com Cuisine: French/American Housed in the historic Audiffred Building, the only local structure to survive San Francisco���s 1906 earthquake and fire, Boulevard is the creation of owners Nancy Oakes and Pat Kuleto. Kuleto���s design of the restaurant is meant to highlight the love for food and wine, while Oakes��� menu highlights both American and French cuisine. DOSA on Fillmore 1700 Fillmore St. 415-441-3672 www.dosasf.com Cuisine: Indian Dosa specifically highlights South Indian cuisine, with many vegetarian options. Spices, coffees, and teas are also said to be staples of South Indian cuisine. With a location also on Valencia Street, Dosa maintains that its goal is to be eco-friendly, using many organic ingredients and sustainable equipment. Fleur de Lys 777 Sutter St. 415-673-7779 www.hubertkeller.com/restaurants/ fleur-de-lys.html Cuisine: French Fleur de Lys is just one of Top Chef Hubert Keller���s restaurants, which he became one of the chefs and owners of in 1986. Fleur de Lys has won numerous awards and is hailed both in San Francisco and across the country. Diners can enjoy a selection of meat, seafood, and vegetarian options. Gary Danko 800 N. Point St. 415-749-2060 www.garydanko.com Cuisine: American Chef Gary Danko���s restaurant of the same name has only been open for seven years, but is already posting impressive ratings for his American cuisine. The menu offers a variety of dishes, including meats and seafood, as well as a selection of desserts. The restaurant is located near the Russian Hill and Fisherman���s Wharf neighborhoods, just blocks from the San Francisco Bay. Located near the Japantown area of San Francisco, there is limited seating, so calling ahead may be a good idea. Kokkari Estiatorio 200 Jackson St. 415-981-0983 www.kokkari.com/home/ Cuisine: Mediterranean Named after an ancient Greek town, the restaurant highlights Mediterranean flavors with traditional Greek dishes and an extensive dessert and wine menu. It is located only a few blocks from the water in San Francisco���s financial district. Chowder���s has a variety of seafood, as well as clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls (a must in San Francisco!). With the idea for cuisine inspired by traditional Naples cuisine, all ingredients are imported from Italy. The restaurant offers several varieties of pizza, including Neapolitan.
